David Stone netted two goals
Rugby
Town finished off 2005 in style with a four-goal victory
against struggling Aylesbury United at Butlin Road.
The
visitors' woes were well documented before the game
after their manager Danny Nicholls left the club with
most of the players amidst financial problems meaning
a good number of youth players were forced to make appearances.
Rugby
manager Billy Jeffrey named an unchanged line-up from
the 3-0 win against Banbury and Rob Gould made a return
to Butlin Road for the Ducks.
Robbie
Beard and David Stone were causing problems from the
first whistle and the inevitable first goal came with
just shy of 30 minutes on the watch. Valley broke
down the right hand side and Matt Green slipped the
ball in for Rob Beard who advanced into the area
and coolly slotted home across the goalkeeper for his
second goal in two games since his return.
It
took until ten minutes after the break for Rugby to
double their advantage. The ball broke from a
corner back to Willis Francis whose effort deflected
wickedly and looped into the corner of the net.
It
was soon three as Valley attacked down the left with
a simple ball to Beard, whose cross was only parried
by the goalkeeper and David Stone had time to
turn and convert from inside the six yard box.
With
eight minutes to go, Rugby were awarded a penalty as
Stone was brought down in the area. The young
striker picked himself up to take the penalty but it
was well saved by the Ducks goalkeeper but after deflecting
off Beard the ball found its way back to David Stone
who netted his fourteenth goal of the season.
