Beard attacks in the first half
Rugby
Town slumped to a 3-0 defeat at struggling Evesham United
on a bog of a pitch of a cold afternoon.
Evesham
were well worth their win and the damage was done in
three first half minutes just before half time.
Two
minutes before the break, Duncan netted a looping header
over Farhad Afandiyev following Knight's long ball and
then two minutes later Taylor headed home to shellshock
the visitors.
Rugby
had failed to capitalize on their early dominance and
Robbie Beard was guilty of one of the best chances of
the game as he was clean through but dragged his shot
agonisingly wide.
Matt
Green should have put Valley in front but lifted his
shot onto the bar and Kevin Slinn headed over when he
was allowed a free header.
In
the second half, Evesham grew with confidence, realising
that Rugby were rapidly running out of ideas but they
still had a chance to get back into the game but Delroy
Gordon missed a crucial chance following Wooding's corner.
Evesham
could have added two or three to the scoreline and they
made it three when Richard Ball ran clear and slotted
past the goalkeeper. Rugby had to thank Afandiyev
to make two good saves to keep the score down.
