Rugby
Town suffered their first away defeat of the season
at the hands of promotion hopefuls Halesowen Town.
Despite
pulling goals back, the Yeltz always stayed one step
ahead of Rugby who had goalkeeper Stevie Wilson sent
off for handball in the second half.
It
was Rugby who could have drew first blood in the first
few minutes when Scott Cross received the ball down
the left hand side after a good move and pulled the
ball back to Rory Squire, but with the goal begging
the ball wasn't quite right.
Halesowen
took the lead on 28 minutes when Alex Cowley curled
in a delightful shot from 20 yards.
After
the break, Rugby fell two behind when a corner was dreadfully
dealt with by the Valley defence and Nick Amos was
on hand to tap in from inside the six yard box.
The
visitors still battled away and got a goal back when
Danny Williams took a short corner to David Stone and
his cross was headed home by Rory Squire at the
near post.
But
another lapse and the hosts had a two goal lead back
within a minute. Another piece of terrible defending
and Nick Smith looped the ball into the net.
Rugby
stayed in the game when substitute Jon Nichols' looping
cross cannoned off the crossbar and fell to Kevin
Slinn who slotted home from the angle.
Rugby
could not force an equaliser with the best chance falling
in the last minute to substitute Simeon Williams, but
his header went straight into the goalkeeper's hands. |
