Slinn notches his first goal for Rugby Town
Rugby
Town collected their first victory of the season in
comprehensive fashion at home to previously unbeaten
Hitchin Town.
Goals
from Kevin Slinn, David Stone, new loan signing Scott
Cross and Rob Maddox sealed an impressive 4-1 win against
the Canaries.
The
first half was evenly matched but the game to life when
David Stone cut inside the Hitchen defence before unleashing
a powerful shot which deflected into the path
Kevin Slinn who notched his first goal for the
club.
David
Stone doubled the lead
minutes later when a corner was not cleared sufficiently
and the Rugby youngster nailed the ball into the top
corner from the edge of the area.
Hitchen
had their chances and could easily have pulled a goal
back before half time, but Rugby managed to keep other
through resilient defending and good goalkeeping from
Stevie Wilson.
Rugby
got their third after half time when Stone was again
the provider playing the ball to new signing Scott
Cross who slotted home.
Hitchen
got themselves back into the game when Chris McMenamin
curled in a superb goal from 25 yards.
But
it was Rugby who were to have the better chances in
the final half hour and Rugby won the game with five
minutes remaining, with Stone again rolling the ball
along the six yard box for substitute Rob Maddox
to score the easiest of goals. |
