Tim Wooding opens his Rugby account
Improving
Northwood claimed a well-deserved victory over a lacklustre
Rugby side to inflict only a second Valley defeat in
nine games.
The
home side got off to a perfect start and took the lead
on fifteen minutes as Tim Wooding superbly
curled in a 25-yard free-kick to net his first goal
for Rugby.
However,
the celebrations were short lived as Farhad Afandiyev
was beaten at his near post directly from a corner by
Dean Clark just five minutes later.
Rugby
were not their usual energetic selves with still a make-shift
defence and Northwood were looking increasingly dangerous
on the break.
Valley's
best chance to take the lead in the second half when
Robbie Beard worked the ball well back to Kevin Slinn,
whose rising half volley was superbly saved by the visiting
goalkeeper.
Northwood
sealed all three points with fifteen minutes remaining
when Afandiyev fumbled a cross and the ball ended at
the feet of Luke Garrard, who guided a low shot in from
the edge of the area.
The
visitors looked the more likely to add to their score
after this, but the best chance for Rugby came when
David Stone floated a ball up to the back post, but
Delroy Gordon could not direct his header away from
the goalkeeper.
