Rugby
Town travel to Bedworth United's The
Oval ground this Tuesday (17th) for
the first game of the pre-season schedule.
Valley
began training in the first week of
July and had an unofficial friendly
against local side Newport Pagnell
on Rugby's 3G synthetic turf on Saturday
morning.
With
injuries and holidays, Rugby fielded
only five recognisable faces from
last season with David Stone, Akinwale
Aladetoun, Tom Breward, David Kolodynski
& Faz Afandiyev having a run out.
The
game gave manager Billy Jeffrey a
chance to have a look at some of the
many trialists - including full-back
Stefan Morley, who played at Kettering
Town last season, midfielder Scott
Musgrove (ex-Cheltenham & Stamford),
and winger Robert Gondwe (Zambian
Under 23 International), while youth
players Mark Edge and Brad Harris
also impressed.
Meanwhile,
last season's top scorer Jason Taylor
and key defender Delroy Gordon were
present at the game on Saturday but
with both suffering knee injuries,
Billy is hoping that they can recover
as soon as possible:
"Both
Delroy and Jason are struggling at
the moment with their knees. Delroy
was carrying the injury for a large
part of last season while Jason twisted
his knee against King's Lynn.
"I'm
hoping both of them can get fit for
August as they are both key players."
Rugby
are hoping to welcome back a few more
familiar faces for the game against
Bedworth on Tuesday. Willis Francis
& Andy Commander are expected
to return from holiday and will hopefully
be fit for the game however captain
Craig Herbert will be unavailable
due to a family illness.
