Rugby
Town boss Billy Jeffrey will take
his side to Nottinghamshire side Eastwood
Town tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) for their
fourth pre-season friendly, but he
is certainly satisfied with the progress
so far.
Valley
followed up on last week's 3-3 draw
at Bedworth, with two more creditable
performances in their 3-2 victory
over a Luton Town XI and 1-1 draw
against a strong line-up from Blue
Square North side Hinckley United.
Billy
is reasonably happy with how the warm-up
campaign has gone to-date and the
way his squad is starting to take
shape. He said : "We
have had three good work-outs now.
"Fitness
levels are improving, we have played
some nice football at times and as
a bonus the results have been pretty
good too.
"The
young Luton lads gave us something
to think about in the first half with
their movement on and off the ball,
but we responded well in the second
and were tighter on them in the midfield.
"Their
manager admitted afterwards that we
finished the game the stronger - which
is an impressive achievement at such
an early point in the season against
a team who train full-time."
Reflecting
straight after the Hinckley game in
which his side could have easily snatched
another victory, Billy said:
"Tonight's
match was more of a physical battle,
but we stood up to the challenge well
and our pace up-front caused their
defence problems throughout."
19
year old triallist Stuart Sinclair
made his first appearance for the
club against Hinckley. Attacking midfielder
Sinclair appeared in more than 20
games for Blue Square South side Cambridge
City in 2006-07, and has also had
spells with St.Albans and as a youth
teamer at Luton Town.
Goalkeeper
Alex Bacherini started the game on
Tuesday night, putting in a confident
forty five minute performance and
keeping a clean sheet in the process,
until he was replaced by regular keeper
Farhad Afandiyev at half-time.
Billy
hopes that all the triallists will
be available for Saturday's trip to
Unibond Premier side Eastwood Town.
He said:"Eastwood
will be a good test for us. They had
a good season last year, and the game
will give us a chance to see how we
are matching up against a team from
our own level."
