Billy Jeffrey was clearly a happy
man after seeing his side romp to
a 5-1 win over Bedford Town at Butlin
Road but the Valley boss insists he
and his players will not get carried
away.
After
suffering defeats in each of the first
three games, Rugby have bounced back
with three successive wins to climb
from rock bottom to 7th in the table.
None
of Rugby's three strikers had hit
the back of the net before in the
opening five games, but each of them
got off the mark last night.
Speaking
after the Bedford game Billy said
: "We have been playing well
enough recently, but I feel we have
been struggling up front. We had a
special session for the strikers in
training last week, and it appears
to have done the trick tonight."
The
5-1 win against Bedford win was Rugby's
biggest win since defeating Aylesbury
4-0 in December 2005 and the game
also marked a third consecutive win
for the first time in 21 months.
Billy
continued: "The results are going
nicely, but we are not going to get
too carried away. The squad is gelling
together well though, and perhaps
last season in a similar situation
to Saturday's game at Gloucester we
might have gone down. They are a year
older and hopefully more able to cope
with the pressure."
Valley
took a rapid 3-0 lead against Bedford
as they did against Gloucester on
Saturday and after soaking up a sustained
spell of Eagles pressure, Rugby finished
off with two late goals.
"The
scoreline probably flattered us to
some extent, but that's what can happen
when teams have to chase a game at
the end.
"They were a
good young side and it made for an
entertaining game, but we took our
chances superbly well when they came
in the first half.
"They
put the extra man up-front in the
second half and came back at us. Our
substitutions helped as it gave us
some fresh legs and some extra strength
especially in the middle of the park
- where I felt we were beginning to
tire."
