Valley manager Billy Jeffrey was left
ruing lacklustre finishing and defensive
lapses as Rugby Town crashed out of
the FA Cup against NCE League side
Glapwell.
Glapwell,
who operate two leagues lower than
Rugby, took advantage of the visitors'
lack of concentration at the start
of both halves to eventually run out
3-2 winners.
Billy
saw his concede after two minutes
and then just a minute into the second
half:
"I
am very disappointed with the result
of course, you know there are always
going to be upsets in the cup - but
you just hope it's not going to be
you."
"The goals we gave away we were
terrible, they caught us cold at the
start, and then did the same again
just after the interval - which is
particulary annoying considering we
tried to drill it into lads at half-time
to be tighter and close them down
better."
Rugby
undoubtedly had the lion's share of
possession and had plenty of chances
to get back into the game but Glapwell's
defence held out.
Billy
continued: "We dominated the
game for long periods, but to be honest
our final ball was lacking too often.
When we did create the chances, we
just couldn't finish them off.
"We
had worked our socks off last week
at Team Bath the week before and grafted
like a unit. We just didn't do that
on Saturday, and we paid the price."
Valley
will be hoping to put the Glapwell
defeat out of their minds and a win
against Tiverton in the first Saturday
game at Butlin Road this season.
"We
need to bounce back from the disappointment.
We need to re-focus on all the good
work we have done in the league, and
lift the spirits at the club back
up another rung on the ladder.
Saturday's
visitors were also dumped out of the
competition by a team from two leagues
lower, with Shortwood defeating Tivvy
3-0 at Ladysmead.
"Tiverton
have had an equally bad result in
the cup, so they will be looking to
make amends too."
