After an eventful week which saw Rugby
gain a home draw against Tiverton
and exit the Birmingham Senior Cup
at the hands of Midland Alliance side
Atherstone Town, Valley boss Billy
Jeffrey reflected on what could have
been.
Rugby
looked good value for a win against
Tiverton, especially when David Stone
slotted home in the second half to
give Valley the lead but Tivvy clawed
back to gain a draw.
Billy
was relatively pleased with the performance:
"We put in another gutsy performance
and it's good to keep the unbeaten
run going.
"We
really should have been rewarded with
a victory though, as we had them exactly
where we wanted them up until the
sending off.
"We
had fought back well from a goal down,
and were starting to stretch them
about the park and I fancied us for
another goal or two."
The
pivotal point in the match came when
David Kolodynski was given a straight
red card just minutes after Rugby
had taken a 2-1 lead for kicking out
at Tiverton's Nathan Rudge.
"David knows he was foolish to
kick-out at their skipper and has
apologised for it. He has been provoked
into doing it, but that is no excuse
and hopefully he can learn from the
incident.
"He's
a young lad with undoubted talent,
but he needs to show more maturity
in his game at times."
Billy
handed full debuts to Ashley Blake
and on-loan defender Leigh Platnauer
and was pleased with how his side
coped.
"They were a very physical side
- perhaps too physical at times -
and they got away with a lot of very
heavy and clinical challenges, especially
in the first half.
"We
stood up well to that though, and
considering there were a couple of
new faces in the line-up, I thought
we performed well as a unit."
