Valley
face two tough games in the coming
week, and they will need to be at
their resilient best for a re-arranged
trip to Bedford this Saturday and
then the visit of Chippenham to Butlin
Road next Tuesday night - in another
game which has been rescheduled.
Last
Saturday's 0-0 draw at Mangotsfield
briefly saw Town enter the BGBLP top
five play-off zone, although midweek
results saw them drop back down to
sixth again. However with cup commitments
and associated postponements meaning
that all of the teams above them are
not playing in the league again until
next Saturday, Town know that back-to-back
victories in the two forthcoming fixtures
would lift them to the very top of
the table - albeit with a much higher
number of games played.
Six
points from the Bedford and Chippenham
fixtures would however represent an
extremely big ask of Billy Jeffrey's
young guns, although if they can continue
to show the spirit they have displayed
recently - especially on their travels,
then it is certainly not an impossible
task.
Bedford
go into the weekend's game on the
back of a victory in a 5-3 goal fest
at home to Cheshunt on Tuesday night.
The Eagles are now just one place
below Rugby, and with share second
place in the number of goals scored
in the league this season –
coincidentally with Chippenham.
They
are however clearly susceptible at
the back too, having twice conceded
four goals in matches at home to Brackley
and Bromsgrove, and more memorably
were also on the end of a five strike
- by the Valley in the reverse fixture
between the two sides at Butlin Road
earlier in the season.
David
Stone (2), Akin Aladetoun, David Kolodynski
and Ashley Blake were on target for
Town that September evening, and manager
Jeffrey will be delighted if his side
can complete the double.
He
said : "They are a relatively
young and inexperienced side, and
we know from our own experiences that
that can be a recipe for unpredictability.
We caused them real problems earlier
in the season, and hopefully they
will be wary of us on Saturday as
a result and we can use that to our
advantage."
Rushden
& Diamonds loan signing Martyn
Margarson is expected to continue
in goal after his clean sheet at Mangotsfield
last Saturday. Delroy Gordon is a
big doubt having suffered a broken
nose against the Mangoes and will
require a late fitness test.
