Valley's
1,000th game in the Southern League
will almost certainly now be played
at Butlin Road on Saturday 24th November
- with Merthyr Tydfil the scheduled
visitors.
Town's early exit from the FA Trophy
coupled with some creative fixture
juggling by secretary Doug Wilkins
has ensured that the landmark game
will be a home one, and the club are
planning a number of associated activities
and offers to celebrate the occasion.
Club Director Mike Yeats said : "It's
great that we will be able to play
this milestone fixture at Butlin Road
on a Saturday. It's a great achievement
for the club, and I would like to
thank all those that have helped make
it possible over the past many years."
He continued : "We hope that
as many people as possible are able
to get to the Merthyr game - wouldn't
it be great if we could make it 1,000
supporters for the 1,000th game!"
The club - under its then VS Rugby
identity - first entered the Southern
League structure at the beginning
of the 1983-84 season, and in the
twenty five seasons since then has
played in the Eastern, Western and
(old) Midland regional divisions,
as well as twelve years in three separate
spells in the top Premier division.
The club will announce their plans
for the celebration match shortly.
