Clashes
between Valley and the Puritans are
rarely without event and excitement
- indeed nine goals were shared between
the sides in the two equally dramatic
meetings last season.
At
the Spencer Stadium, two goals in
three second half minutes turned a
2-1 defecit into a 3-2
victory for Rugby
while the corresponding game at Butlin
Road produced an unbelievable turn
of events.
Rugby
were comfortably two goals to the
good against a 10-man Banbury, who
had had ex-Rugby player Ben Milner
sent off during the second half, going
into the final two minutes of the
game only for the Puritans to stage
the most unlikely of comebacks to
clinch a 2-2
draw, despite
finishing the game with nine men due
to injury.
Valley
fans will be wishing for a slightly
less eventful afternoon which includes
three points, especially with back-to-back
defeats leaving Valley point-less
so far this season.
Saturday's
opponents Banbury have three players
in their current squad who featured
regularly in the Rugby line-up last
season. Aaron Stringfellow, Tom Breward
and Stephan Morley all signed for
the Puritans in the summer, and the
latter two have featured in the club's
opening two games. They are unbeaten
to-date thanks to 1-0 home victory
over Oxford City and 1-1 midweek draw
at Stourbridge, with both of their
goals coming from striker Nicky Gordon
from the penalty spot.
Craig
Herbert missed the two opening
games with a back injury, but Rugby
manager Rod Brown hopes he will be
available for Saturday and as a result
may rest defender Andy Commander
- who has been playing on despite
of a bad shoulder.
Midfielder
Neil Melvin is another
who is unlikely to feature in the
squad this weekend - as he continues
to rest his niggling ankle injury
and Daren Dykes will
serve the final match of a 3-game
suspension.
Meanwhile
Mark Edge, Kevin
Banner and Delroy
Gordon should brush off
minor knocks to feature.
