After
an eight-month tenure in charge of
Rugby Town, manager Rod Brown parted
company with the club yesterday afternoon.
Brown's
former club, Bromsgrove Rovers, approached
Rugby on Thursday with the intention
to speak to Rod about becoming their
first team manager.
Rugby
accepted the approach and released
Rod to have talks with Bromsgrove
on Thursday afternoon.
Valley
chairman Brian Melvin explained the
events: "I received a courtesy
call from Tom Herbert (Bromsgrove
chairman) on Thursday as a matter
of courtesy to say that he wanted
to approach Rod about taking over
at Bromsgrove.
"I
spoke to Rod straight away and although
he had not yet been officially offered
the Bromsgrove job, he made it quite
clear that he was very keen to return
there so we decided that the best
course of action would be to part
company.
"I'd like to thank Rod for the
time and effort he has put in during
his relatively short time with the
club and wish him all the best for
the future.
"Things
like this seem to happen all the time
in football but we must concentrate
on our game on Saturday against Hemel
Hempstead.
Craig
Herbert, who was briefly the temporary
manager in January when Billy Jeffrey
departed, will again take caretaker
charge with the help of first team
coach Chris Wells.
Melvin
continued: "Craig did an excellent
job last season in difficult circumstances
and I hope he and Chris can produce
similar results on the pitch this
time around."
It
was confirmed on Friday afternoon
that Rod Brown had been officially
appointed as the Bromsgrove Rovers
manager.
Brown
joined Rugby in January 2008 after
Billy Jeffrey's departure and took
Valley to King's Lynn in his first
game in charge, losing 2-0.
Rod
did not secure a league victory until
his fifth game in charge - away to
Cirencester Town.
Rugby
finished the season on a high with
four wins from the final seven games
to avoid relegation.
After
assembling a new squad for the 08/09
season, Brown failed to find a winning
formula with just two points from
the opening six games.
