For
the fourth successive season, Rugby
will face opposition from at least
two leagues lower in the First Qualifying
Round of the FA Cup sponsored by E.On.
After
games against Deeping Rangers, Glapwell
and Friar Lane & Epworth in the
past three seasons, Valley could play
any of four teams who must first compete
in the Extra Preliminary & Preliminary
Qualifying rounds.
One
of Rocester (Midland
Alliance), Southam United
(Midland Combination), Wednesfield
or Dudley Town (both
West Midlands League) will make the
trip to Butlin Road on 12th September
2009 once their ties have been decided.
Last
season, Rugby made progress to the
Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup
for the second time in three seasons
but fell to a last minute penalty
at Blue Square South side Bishop's
Stortford.
Valley
last reached the FA Cup First Round
proper way back in 1993-4 nearly 16
years ago.
In
the FA Carlsberg Trophy, Town will
host either Rothwell Town
or Gosport Borough
in the First Qualifying Round on 17th
October 2009.
Valley's
Trophy record has been very poor in
recent years with just one win out
of the last six years.
That
win came last season in a replay against
Lancaster City before UniBond Premier
side Nantwich Town knocked Valley
out at Butlin Road in the 2nd Qualifying
Round.
