Stratford,
managed by ex-Valley manager Rod Brown,
provided a good test for Rugby who
were playing their first game on grass
this pre-season.
Tony
Dobson's side featured youth team
right back Danny Gibson, trialist
left back Harry Donahue and new strikers
Leon Kelly and Jason Ramsay.
Dobson
also included local goalkeeper Danny
Bell with Andy Stevens away.
Rugby
had the best chances of the first
half with Kelly and Ramsay both shooting
straight at the goalkeeper when through
on goal while Ramsay came close with
rasping effort from Steve Purton's
cross.
After
a number of changes in the second
half, Rugby lost their rhythm a little
and allowed Stratford into the game
with the home side taking the lead
before they doubled their lead towards
the end of the game.
Rugby
now face Northampton Town XI on Saturday
at Butlin Road.
