Rugby Make Light Work of Tractor Boys

Rugby Town overcame Midland Combination Premier Division side Massey Ferguson in their second warm-up game in sweltering conditions at the 3G Butlin Road Astro.

Doubles from former Alvechurch striker Martin Crawford & ex-Stafford man Seb Hamilton along with a penalty from Chad Sheppard and an own goal completed the scoring for Rugby.

Valley manager Martin Sockett shuffled his pack with the inclusion of midfielder Ben Steane for the first time.

After a goal-less first half the goals came flooding in the second as the Massey players tired as the game went on.

Midfielder Paddy Connolly laid on the first goal for Crawford to tap home after Danny Hall's forced a good save from his former Valley team-mate Paul Shepherd from 20 yards.

Crawford picked out the top corner from 25 yards minutes later to double his sides lead before Sockett made wholesale changes to his line-up.

Sheppard's loose control on the edge of the area allowed Massey to score with a smart finish from 12 yards before midfielder Sheppard atoned for his error by slotting away a penalty.

A bizzare on own goal preceded two more goals which came from Hamilton late on, making it three goals in two games for the big striker.
