Valley
boss Martin Sockett hopes to secure
his side's first three points away
to Biggleswade tomorrow after reflecting
on a decent first week.

Martin
was pleased with the way his team
had acquitted themselves against Hitchin
and Woodford, although obviously would
have preferred to have chalked up
a victory from the opening two games.
He
said : “Ideally we would be
on at least four points, but we certainly
shouldn’t get gloomy at such
an early stage – as there were
lots of positive aspects to reflect
on.”
“We
were good value for at least a point
against probably the favourites in
our division on Saturday, and but
for a silly penalty could have ended
up with all three.
"Then
we have gone to Woodford and played
on a pitch which was clearly sub-standard
and we have looked solid, and despite
the conditions we have still created
some good chances to win.
“Lots
of teams will come away from Woodford
empty-handed this year.
"They
are very much a route one side and
they work very hard for each other.”
“Hitchin
are like us, in so far as they like
to play get the ball down and play
football.
"We
had some good chances in the first
half on Saturday, and could have easily
gone in to the interval ahead.
The
lads responded well after the break,
but Hitchin started to get a foothold
as the second half progressed and
showed why they had finished runners-up
last season.
“Having
said that we have defended well in
both games, and it was also the first
time that side had played together
as an eleven – so overall I
am encouraged by what I have seen
so far.
Looking
ahead to the trip to Bedfordshire
on Saturday, Sockett said : “We’ve
had Biggleswade watched in pre-season,
and the reports were that they were
decent side, and it is a decent set-up
and surface down there – which
hopefully will suit us more.”
