Valey's annual FA Cup adventure begins
this weekend against West Midlands
(Regional) League Premier Division
side Gornal.
The
game also falls on 'Non League Day'
when there are no other top flight,
Championship or International football
distractions.
Regular
supporters are encouraged to bring
a friend or those who normally enjoy
Premier League or League football
are welcome to enjoy non-league football
and the magic of the FA Cup in the
early rounds.
The
Rugby Town Supporters Club is running
a 6-a-side competition before the
game on the club's 3G astro facility
with teams from the supporters clubs
of Aston Villa, Leicester & Coventry
all involved.
Rugby
last reached the FA Cup First Round
proper back in 1993-4 nearly 18 years
ago while Valley's best FA Cup record
came in 1987-88 and 1992-93 when they
reached the Second Round Proper.
Last
year, Rugby overcame Atherstone Town
in the Preliminary Round with a 3-0
win in a replay at Sheepy Road before
a shock 5-1 defeat to West Midlands
side Wednesfield in the First Qualifying
Round.
Valley
could visit Kidsgrove or Atherstone
in the First Qualifying Round should
they progress against Gornal.
Rugby
have made a couple of forays as far
as the Third Qualifying Rounds in
the last five seasons before suffering
unfortunate defeats to Chelmsford
City & most recently Bishop's
Stortford in 2008.
Gornal,
who play two steps below Rugby in
the non-league pyramid, are currently
riding high in the West Midlands Premier
so confidence will be high.
Equally
Valley have made a positive start
to the season under new boss Dave
Stringer with four wins from the openind
six games.
Stringer
will still have the services of full
back Dominic Reece to call upon as
he starts his three-game suspension
after Saturday's game while Danny
Hall is again available for selection.
Otherwise
Rugby will have a full strength side
to choose from aside from long-term
absentees Lewis Haycock and Paddy
Connolly.
Valley
Squad from: Louis Connor,
Pete Smith; Danny Hall, Gary Moran,
Dominic Reece, Nick Preston, Melvin
Gourlay, Jamel Wilson; Ben Steane,
Richard Wesley, Andy Gundelach, Adam
Khan, Lynval Da Costa, Steve Evans,
Lee Miveld; Seb Hamilton, Tyrone Fagan.
