Club founder Keith Coughlan has been looking through the records and has found that it is the first time we have had that happen in the Southern League:
The most memorable occassion was on 4th September 1985 in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round Replay when Steve Norris 3 and Chris Downes 4 (inc 1 penalty) were amongst the scorers in a 10-0 win over Ilkeston Town at Butlin Road. The oher goalscorers on the day were Stuart Carmichael, Danny Conway & Dave Ingram.
In the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division days, again at Butlin Road on 25th August 1977 Stewart Gallagher scored three and Paul Baynes four against Staffordshire Police in a 9-0 victory with the other two scored by Chris Hine.
In 1972 on 18th March in the United Counties League Division 3, Alex Wyllie scored four and Phil Carter three against Ampthill Town Reserves in a 9-1 home victory with the other goals scored by Maurice Price & Phil Horne.
Anything before that would definitely be classed as Junior football when the largest of all Valley victories was on 12th December 1959 at Thornfield in the Rugby Junior Charity Cup 1st Round with a 20-0 victory against BTH Apprentices when current Vice President and fund raiser Digby Berry scored a 'Double Hat-Trick (six), Willie Irvine five, Peter Milaszczuk (later known as Peter Nelson) five, Vic Page two, Dickie Dykes and Ron Middleton one each.
One of the hat-trick scorers on Saturday David Kolodynski netted his first hat-trick for the club since a treble in the Birmingham Senior Cup against Stratford Town in October 2009.
Kolodynski is the only Valley player to have scored back-to-back hat-tricks in games against Merthyr Tydfil and Clevedon Town in Decemeber 2008. |
