Having established a club record for goals scored in Southern League matches last month at Barton, Rugby Town striker David Kolodynski has firmly set his sights on smashing the record tally for all competitions too.
The club acknowledged the 24 year-old marksman’s achievement by presenting him with a trophy before the home game against Uxbridge earlier this month.

David Kolodynski has continued his goalscoring form into this season with 11 league goals in 10 starts. |

Previous league goal record holder Robbie Beard joined director Mike Yeats and manager Dave Stringer for the presentation ceremony, with Kolodynski duly obliging later on the pitch with the final goal of the game – his fourteenth of the season and his 105th in a Valley shirt to-date.
On receiving the award Kolodynski commented: “It’s an honour to have beaten the Southern League record here and it was great that Robbie came along to help present the award, as he was an excellent player for the club.”
Beard managed 84 Southern League goals for Rugby as part of two spells at Butlin Road, but Kolodynski’s brace at Barton took him past that total, and he is now only nineteen behind Danny Conway’s all-competitions record of 124.
He continued: “Of course I’m looking to beat that total before the season is through.
"It’s all about what you have around you though, and we have a great team here at the moment – so if they can keep setting me up as well as they have been doing, I’m confident I can get there.”
Kolodynski picked out his bicycle-kick effort at Yate during his first spell at the club in 2008 as his best-ever goal, and whilst he remains ambitious in his footballing aspirations, he committed himself to his home-town club for the foreseeable future.
He said: “I love it at Rugby and get on with everybody really well at the club, so whilst I ultimately would love to be a full-time footballer, I wouldn’t want to leave for someone round here just for a small step up or a bit of extra money.
“Hopefully if I can continue scoring the goals, I will catch someone’s eye and an opportunity may come up in the Football League or the Conference Premier in the future though.”
In the meantime, Kolodynski is focused on the scoring record and more importantly helping Town back into the Southern League Premier Division.
He concluded: “I set myself a challenging goals target at the start of the season and that’s pretty much on track at the moment.
"We are definitely good enough to go up.
"It’s a great bunch of lads here at the moment, and we know that we can be the best side in the division on our day.”
