David Kolodynski won the Rugby Sportsman of the Year Award after an excellent 2013.
David scooped the award in front of a flat green bowls champion and a national-grade canoeist at the Rugby Borough Council's annual awards at the Benn Hall.
Kolo rounded off an outstanding 2013 for his hometown club with yet another Rugby Town hat-rick - his eighth for the first team - in the final match of the year at North Greenford.
This latest treble came just days after the two vital goals which settled the Boxing Day local derby against Daventry.
This year's conclusion was typical of David's exceptional form throughout it - having returned to the club towards the end of 2012.
Having progressed through the Rugby Town Junior Section (from the under 12's) and then onto the Youth and Reserve sides, David made his first team debut at the age of just just 17 in 2006, and has barely looked back since.
The highlight of his first spell at the club came when he topped the 2008/09 scoring charts in the entire Southern League Premier with 26 goals.
After the leaving 12 months later to feature for 3 more clubs at that level (plus Hinckley in the higher Football Conference), his return has sparked a record breaking run of Town goals for him - helping to ensure a very successful period for the team in general.
He ended the 2013 season with 35 goals in just 38 starts - a club record, as Rugby just missed out onto a return promotion to the Southern League Premier.
He was named Supporters Player of the Year as a result of his contribution last season.
He has then carried on in the new season where he left off last time out, already registering now over 30 times - meaning his own record will undoubtedly be under threat come the end of campaign.
He also became the club's highest scorer in (30 years of) Southern League fixtures in October, when his 85th league goal saw him pass Valley legend Robbie Beard's total.
The only main club scoring record left - all-time goals in all competitions - is now within his grasp. Danny Conway currently holds this achievement with 124 goals, but David's great end to the year has seen him reach 114, and he will surely pass Danny's tally before the end of the season - form and lack of injuries allowing.
As well as his propensity to execute acrobatic and/or highly innovative finishes, a key feature of David's goalscoring is his exceptional strike rate.
His 114 goals to-date have come in just 158 starts, whereas Conway's total took 373. He averages 0.72 goals per game over his entire Town career, which rises to 0.87 within his current spell in isolation. |
