Adams Looks To Revitalise Valley

New Rugby Town manager Carl Adams is looking forward to the challenges ahead of him following his appointment to the Valley hot seat.

Adams left his previous post at Stratford to drop down two levels to take charge at Butlin Road and he explained the reasons for the switch across the county.

He said: “I just felt that I was going stale at Stratford. The first three years were a whirlwind experience and we achieved a lot of success.

"Whilst we have been holding our own in the Southern League Premier for the past couple of seasons with 14th and 15th placed finishes, I want to win things and I decided it was time for a fresh challenge.”

On the attraction of Rugby, he continued: "I have kept my eye on the club for a while as it’s a good club with a great infrastructure and I have always thought that I would like to get hold of it one day and try and restore it to its former glories."

The 45 year-old experienced non-league campaigner has already set about the task of assembling his 2018/19 squad.

Adams added: “I’m looking to get agreements to join from four or five quality players as soon as I can, and hopefully from there it will be a domino effect with others following them when they see what are trying to put together and achieve here.

“I’ve got a number of lads coming to see the ground and the set-up this week, so that should kick things off.

"I’m fairly confident that I can get certain players that I have had in the past to follow me over to here, but I also know that everything won’t be completed overnight and in some cases we may have to wait until after the first few weeks of the season to get the final pieces of the jigsaw together.”

Having won Town’s equivalent division title with Stratford in 2013 on the back of further silverware at his club previous to that Coleshill, Adams clearly has a winner’s mentality.

He said: “I have not come here to finish mid-table in this division and promotion is definitely our aim for next season.

"If we can keep ourselves in contention come Christmas then we should have everything in place by then to give it a real go.

“I’ve built successful sides from similar situations twice before and the club has given the opportunity and the resources to achieve it for a third time now.”

Adams is hoping to announce his first backroom appointment in the coming days, with discussions at an advanced stage for an ex-Valley favourite to assume a player-coaching role in the new set-up.

The appointment of the new man means represents Valley’s sixth change at the helm in just three years, with Gary Mills, Dale Belford, James Jepson, Gary Moran and Dave Stringer all coming and going, however Adams reassures Town’s supporters that he intends to be here for the long haul.

He concluded: “There’s no point looking back at what has happened on the managerial front here over the past few years.

"I want to be at the club for the long term and try and get them back up to a level I think they deserve to be at.

“I was at Coleshill for more than three years and then completed six at Stratford, so my track record shows that I stay at clubs for decent time periods, and I’m really looking forward to kicking-off another successful chapter in my managerial career.”
