Warwick Stalemate
Rugby Town were held to a goal-less draw at Midland Football League Division One side Racing Club Warwick in the final away pre-season friendly.
It was a mostly uneventful affair on a difficult pitch at Townsend Lane following the recent hot and dry weather with clear-cut chances at a premium.
Rugby manager Carl Adams again used the game as an opportunity to run his rule over a number of trialists in the second half while there was a first appearance of pre-season for new midfielder Richard Bunting.
Warwick's side including a few familiar faces including former Valley players Sean Castleton and Sam Beasley and ex-Leamington & Coventry United striker Ben Mackey.
Mackey hit the woodwork for Warwick in the opening period and Lewis Rankin did the same for Valley.
Warwick to their credit looked a strong side and were playing on the back of a 4-0 win over MFL Premier side Coventry United, who Rugby face in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup in August. |
