FA Vase Draw: Boldmere v Rugby
Rugby Town have been drawn away to Midland Football League Premier Division side Boldmere St Michaels in the FA Vase First Round.
Valley won through to the First Round Proper with a hard-fought victory over lower league Ingles on Saturday at Shepshed's Dovecote ground in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
Opponents Boldmere have won two games in the Vase already with victories over GNP Sports & Studley in the previous rounds with the Mikes having started the season well with four wins from six in the MFL Premier.
Rugby faced Boldmere twice in the league last season and won both games including a 3-0 win at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground just under a year ago.
Valley have faced Boldmere in the Vase previously with a victory after a replay back in October 1981 in the Preliminary Round with John McGinty and Ian Crawley scoring the goals in front of 88 fans at Butlin Road.
This season will be the second since the 1984/85 campaign that Rugby have competed in the FA Vase.
Last season Rugby won three games in the Vase before bowing out to Wolverhampton Sporting Club in a Second Round replay at Butlin Road.
Valley famously won the FA Vase in 1983 beating Halesowen Town 1-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
The FA Vase First Round will be played at X on Saturday 13 October 2018. |
