FA Cup Draw 2021/22

Rugby Town have been drawn at home to Midland Football League Premier Division side Boldmere St Michaels in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

It is the eighth successive year that Rugby have been drawn against MFL opposition in their opening FA Cup fixture.

Rugby last played Boldmere in an FA Vase First Round tie in 2018 when the Mikes came from behind to progress at The Trevor Brown Memorial Ground.

Valley have won their two previous meetings with Boldmere at Butlin Road including a 2-1 victory in December 2017.

For the past two seasons Rugby's FA Cup journey has ended at the first hurdle with Extra Preliminary Round defeats to Sporting Khalsa in 2019 and Worcester City in 2020.

The last time Valley made good progress in the competition was a run to the Second Qualifying Round in 2018 with memorable wins over higher division Evesham United and Redditch United before bowing out at Butlin Road against Hednesford Town.

Meanwhile in the FA Vase, Rugby have been drawn away at Coventry Copsewood in the First Qualifying Round, game to be played on 11 September 2021.

The winner of that came will host AFC Wulfrunians in the Second Qualifying Round on 25 September.

FA Cup

Valley have reached as far as the Third Qualifying Round once in recent history before existing to then-Conference North side Worcester City in 2013.

Valley last reached the FA Cup First Round proper back in 1993-4 nearly 28 years ago while Rugby's best FA Cup record came in 1987-88 and 1992-93 when they reached the Second Round Proper.

This year's Extra Preliminary Round tie will be played at Butlin Road on Saturday 7th August 2021.

The winners of the tie will travel to either Racing Club Warwick or Stone Old Alleynians in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday 21st August 2021.
