Joshua Praises Mindset Shift
Valley boss Grant Joshua hailed a change in belief and mindset as the driving force behind his side’s first win of the season.
The 2-0 away victory at Wellingborough Town on Tuesday night also marked Joshua’s first victory in charge and the Valley boss believes the performance mirrored Saturday’s narrow defeat to Carlton – but with one key difference.
“Our performance last night was almost identical to Saturday, but we put the ball in the net when we were on top – and goals change games at any level,” he said.
“Getting into the mind of the players that we were going there for maximum points was key – not to sit in and nick a draw, but to play our game and get what we deserved.
"The lads showed real trust and faith in our style despite Saturday’s setback, and they got their reward.”
Joshua was particularly pleased with his side’s intensity and fitness levels. “Our application to press and hunger to win the ball back is fast becoming the most pleasing aspect of our game - if there’s a fitter side in the league, I’d like to see it.
"I’ve got Nathan Kabeya, Caine Elliott, Callum Griffin and Joe Palmer sprinting 60 yards to close down full backs in the 90th minute and they looked like they could play another game straight after.”
Impact from the bench also drew praise from the Valley boss. “It was fantastic to see the impact of Olly West, Joe Palmer, Bleu McNeil and the big man Curvin Sanderson-Ellis when they came on.
"I’ve got a nice headache for the Corby game in terms of selection.”
Joshua also had special words for the travelling support. “It felt like a home game – the support for a midweek was mind blowing. I could hear them all night long and looking forward to seeing them for the Corby game." |
