Joshua: "Two Moments Of Quality Won It"
Valley boss Grant Joshua recognised the quality from midfield duo Caine Elliott and Callum Griffin whose goals ensured a first home league win of the season over Coleshill Town.
The 2-1 win against the Colemen featured yet another comeback as Valley found themselves behind again coming into the final stages of the game.
Joshua was full of praise for his players’ determination and resilience, though admitted the performance left plenty to work on: “A valuable three points and a game won by two moments from two very good footballers.
"I’m not happy with us on the ball, we need to improve, we lacked control in the game," said Joshua. "The game in general lacked any kind of quality to be honest with you, and it was nothing tactical about why we won the game — it was just about heart, desire, and I thought our fitness came through in the end. We had a bench that we knew could impact the game.
"It was a frustrating evening as I know we’re better than that, but we’re in a results-driven business, so sometimes the performance takes a secondary position. We were stuck in second gear all evening but the message when going 0–1 down was not to panic. We know we finish strong and it turned out that way.
"Caine Elliott, yet again, has that quality and technique to strike from range, and I’m delighted with Callum Griffin's goal too — it’s instinctive, sharp and a fantastic finish.
"Marcus Bald made a wonderful save from Joe Morley as well — I'm pleased for him, he was much better tonight and much more commanding."
"It’s three long overdue points at home, but that’s all it is. There will be bigger challenges over the coming weeks, and we can’t play in the same manner and expect to win. Tonight we were wasteful on the ball, but we’ve won the game with two high-quality moments and that willingness to go against adversity."
"The supporters stuck with us again — there's something about us kicking that way second half, you could feel something happening when Caine equalised.
"They give these lads so much confidence and belief with the noise — it gives us an extra 25%. Thank you."
The result gives Valley a timely boost ahead of another busy spell of fixtures, as Joshua’s young side look to build on the momentum from this long-awaited home league win. |
