Valley Hit Top Gear At Sutton
Rugby Town produced their most complete performance of the season on Tuesday night sweeping aside Sutton Coldfield Town.
The 3-0 win over the Royals saw a commanding display that combined attacking sharpness with defensive solidity and Rugby Town manager Grant Joshua was full of praise for his players, who he said were "at it from the warm-up" and showed the attitude and quality he’s been demanding in recent weeks.
"Hats off to the lads for that performance - we ripped through Sutton at will, some huge individual performances and a clean sheet.
"There are still a few bits to work on, but overall three points on the road was the main objective.
"It was a strong performance from the group and I thought we completely dominated and took control of the game.
"We looked confident and sure in our build-up - something I made clear needed improving after Saturday - and that helped us control the game from deeper positions.
"Our attacking play was electric tonight - razor sharp, too quick, too powerful, and just a real handful to manage. It’s what we’ve been wanting for a month or so from our forward players. The clean sheet is something we’ve been craving, and it should breed confidence into the group. We need more of those.
"I thought Greg Tempest, who came in for his debut, was the best player on the pitch. His football intelligence is right up there - he’s three steps ahead, and the opposition didn’t even know what game they were playing. A brilliant performance and something for him to build on.
"It’s unfair to just single Greg out though — from one to 16 we were fantastic. No Stan, Ethan Hanson or Isaac in the squad, so we were stretched, but everyone pulled together.
"We’ve got some players who don't like me at the moment and that’s fine — I like it. The competition is fierce and it should be at a club the size of ours, it will push them all to be better and increase our performance levels.
"It’s three points — no more — but we know we’ve got more in the tank. It’s about what we do in preparation for the visit of Coventry Sphinx on Saturday. Another tough game, as they all are in this league.
"Shoutout to the support yet again — we’ll need you on Saturday." |
