Sam Tied Down
Rugby Town are pleased to confirm that Sam Tye has committed to the club for next season.
Tye joined the club last summer from Coleshill Town as one of manager Grant Joshua’s key additions and went on to make 45 appearances during the campaign, scoring nine goals.
The 30-year-old captained the side at various points throughout the season and once again demonstrated his versatility, operating across a number of positions including full-back, midfield and further forward.
Prior to joining Rugby Town, Tye spent five seasons playing under Joshua at both Lye Town and Coleshill Town, where he scored 11 goals in 47 appearances during the 2024/25 season. Manager Grant Joshua believes the midfielder still has plenty more to offer heading into the new campaign.
"We're pleased to get Sam done. He knows the staff inside out, we know him inside out and the continuity of being here last season was a big factor in both ours and his decision.
"I'll be the first to admit we made mistakes with Sam in terms of position at times last season. Because he’s played those roles before for me, it’s always easy to put him in those full-back areas and let him play there, but in reality he’s far better suited, with his goals record, to be attacking the opposition’s goal."
Joshua feels Tye’s ability to contribute goals from midfield will be key to how Town want to play. "A midfield runner who can get between 12 and 18 league goals is priceless and crucial for the way we want to play.
"Of course he needs to be more consistent in performances and he knows that, but physically he’s a beast and I’m expecting a far better version of Sam Tye to show up next season."
Joshua also highlighted the strong connection Tye has built with the club and supporters: "He’s really bought into the football club. His relationship with the supporters is strong and he’ll be looking to carry that on." |
