Andy
enjoyed a
fantastic
first season
with Valley
after joining
from Southern League Premier
rivals Bedford
Town in July
2008 after
an 18-month
spell at The
New Eyrie.
Stevens
was an immediate
hit in between
the sticks
at Butlin
Road with
impressive
displays of
shotstopping
and the goalkeeper's
consistency
earnt him
the Players'
Player and
Supporters'
Player awards
in his first
season.
Andy
had a bizarre
season in
2009/10 with
the club performing
so poorly
in the league
and leaking
so many goals
- the young
keeper was
still rewarded
with a number
of Player
of the Year
awards at
the end of
the season.
Stevens
even chipped
in with two
goals when
playing as
an outfield
player later
in the season
once Rugby's
relegation
had been sealed.
The
goalkeeper
progressed
through the
youth system
at Bedford
before joining
Yeading (now
Hayes &
Yeading) in
2004. There
he found first
team opportunities
limited as
a young goalkeeper,
but returned
to Bedford
in February
2007 and impressed
in the first
team. Andy
was the first
choice for
the Eagles
for the 2007/8
before opting
to join Valley.
Valley
agreed to
release Andy
from his contract
to join Blue
Square Premier
side Kidderminster.
Stevens returned to play under Dave Stringer as one-off occasions in 2012 and 2013 when regular stopper Dave Bevan was unavailable. |
