Josh signed for Rugby in July 2009 having been released by Crewe Alexandra in the same summer.

The then 19-year-old striker was on the books at Crewe for many years as a junior and also had spells on loan with UniBond Premier teams during his time there.

Josh failed to make an impression on Valley boss Tony Dobson and the young striker moved onto Cammell Laird in September 2009.

Thompson re-signed for Rugby under Lee Colkin and netted against Didcot before finding opportunties limited once more and moved on in February 2010.
