Butlins Fair Play Award 2006

Rugby Town Boys were finally rewarded this week with Butlins Fair Play Award 2006.

They had originally entered the Tournament back in May and only found out they had won the award when Malcolm Garrett (coach) had looked in next year's brochure and realised they were in the role of honour. After contacting Easter festivals (Butlins tournament organisers) they were quick to recognise we had not received our trophies and sent them out to the squad this week. Manager Wayne Nutt praised his squad, coaches and parents who all played a massive part in representing Rugby Town JFC back in May. "We thoroughly deserve this award and should be proud of our achievements."

RT Boys 6-1 Pinley
15 April 2007 | Coventry Minor League Division B

Sponsored by Coba Plastics

A Fantastic performance in hot conditions saw the Boys to victory.

Josh Scobie opened the scoring when he pounced at the far post. Pinely soon equalised. The two centre half’s in Jamie Whiteside and Luke Townsend controlled the centre with Lewis Briggs, Andrew Elliman & Luke Tayler supporting out wide. Ryan Illingworth-Joyce restored the lead with a delightful chip. Ben Sinclair ran tirelessly in hot conditions putting Pinleys defence under pressure. Matty Garrett scored the third when the keeper failed to hold onto the ball. In the second half Rugby scored a magnificent fourth when good work from Sam Nutt released Conor Marshall who’s pin point cross found Matty Garrett who volleyed into the net. Matty claimed his hat trick when he headed home after good work from Nick O’Connor.

Josh scored his second and Rugby’s sixth to complete the scoring. Callum Hemming pull off a great save when he denied Pinley with a late penalty. This team performance was fantastic as we made hard work of it ten days ago against the same opponents.

RT Juniors 4-3 RT Boys
25 March 2007 | Coventry Minor League Division B

Sponsored by Coba Plastics

It was such a shame that two Rugby Town sides had to meet in the last eight of the cup.

Rugby Town Boys started the brighter of the two sides and it was Ryan Illingworth-Joyce who fired the Boys into the lead.

The juniors equalised soon after but on the stroke of HT Jamie Whiteside delivered a curling free kick in which Matty Garrett headed home. It was just what the Boys had deserved as they had dominated most of the first half. In the second half the Boys battled well but could not stop the juniors equalising. Two goals soon followed from corners to trail 4-2. The Boys weren’t finished as Nick O’Connor tucked away a goal from a corner to set up a dramatic finish. But 4-3 it finished.

This was one of the best performances I have witnessed from the Boys and they came out of this game with a lot of Credit as they ran there counterparts every step of the way. As your manager I am so proud of each and every squad member you certainly showed me that you have the will to win and on your day you are a match for any side. Good Luck to the juniors on progressing into the semis.

Rugby Town Boys 4-1 Wyken FC
18 March 2007 | Coventry Minor League Division B

Sponsored by Coba Plastics

Rugby took the lead in the early stages of the game when Conor Marshall latched onto a goal kick and slotted home.

Wyken replied with an equaliser but it was Luke Townsend who restored the lead when his run down left was finished by lobbing the Keeper. In the second half Wyken pressed for an equaliser and Rugby had Keeper Andy Elliman to thank when he stopped Wykens striker from scoring when he was clean through. Rugby took the pressure of themselves when good work from Ben Sinclair pulled back a cross into Matty Garrett’s path and he finished it off. Luke Townsend scored the fourth and his second of the game to complete the scoring.

Rugby Town Boys 4-4 Coventry Jaguar
11 March 2007 | Coventry Minor League Division B

Sponsored by Coba Plastics

Rugby Town can count there blessings that they grabbed a point out of this fixture.

Cov Jag kept Rugby in there own half for most periods of the first half and took the lead with a superb looping shot. Rugby did grab an equaliser before HT Ryan Illingworth-Joyce slotting home. In the second half Rugby woke up and were soon 2-1 up when Ryan scored his second. Jamie Whiteside then scored the third from a corner and an OG put us 4-1 up. Rugby seem to be coasting but Cov Jag had other ideas when they scored three goals in succession to level the match up.

Cov Jag could have won the game in the final minutes but Rugby had Luke Tayler to thank as he cleared the shot of his own goal line.
