Rugby Town Dragons 6-3 Grove Farm Jets
15 April 2007

A difficult start for RT as play commenced, within three minutes GFJ had scored with the ball bouncing high over RT defence.

However this was the momentum RT needed and Bill Holman returned with a powerful shot from 12 yards away making the score even, but not content with this within minutes he scored yet again superbly. With defence Sam Revell, Dali Wu, Shanil Vaghela and Matty Conopo all now in position, the ball was fed well to George Cocks from James Howe that enabled another goal to be scored. Second half proved to be a different game, pace had improved but GFJ had stepped a gear. With only 9 men on pitch they showed a good show of skills, yet again with the ball bouncing high they added another goal to boost their score. Not to be out done, George “new boots” Bond skilfully slipped in his goal, Callum Birse added his goal later from a good run from the half way line, and Craig Moonan picking up the ball from the wing scored RT final goal. GFJ were not finished yet though and added a further goal to end the game.

A good display of football from all RT players and a thoroughly well played game.

Bedworth Eagle Colts 1-0 Rugby Town
7 April 2007 | Cup

A good chance to see how the Wolves are progressing, The Colts lie in the top half of the division above the Wolves.

An early Saturday start in Bedworth and the Wolves were camped out in their own half for the majority of the first half, some excellent defending from the back four of Shanil Vaghela, Dali Wu, Sam Revell and Matty Conopo kept the Colts to just the one goal. Goalkeeper Chris Goodman making some brave saves at the feet of the opposition.

The second half saw the Dragons come more into the game, actually managing to venture into the oppositions half and making chances. Robbie Winkle playing his normal roll just in front of the back four continued to intercept opposition passes and finding his own team with some accurate distribution. Both George Cocks and Craig Moonan continued to press down the left hand side ably assisted by Callum Birse and Gavin Sewydall in the middle. James Howe having one of his best games persevered on the right and assisted his defence when needed. George Bond who was tried out on the right wing showed his exceptional skills beating his player on regular occasions. Up front Bill Holman continued his excellent form and caused the Colts defence problems all afternoon.

Well were out of the Cup and as they say we can now concentrate on the league.

Bedworth Rangers 1-0 Rugby Town
1 April 2007

A disappointing result for a game that should have been in RT’s favour from the start.

RT started well giving a good display of passes and defence was tight, however BR gained possession of the ball numerous times and made it difficult for strikers Bill Holman and Jim Dickinson to convert any chances of scoring. Midfielders struggled to work together and create openings that normally come easily for the team. Dali Wu, Shanil Vaghela and Matty Conopo, all defenders worked well with GK Jordan Cort in keeping the score 0:0 at half time.

2nd half was pretty much the same game as the 1st, although George Bond, James Howe, Callum Birse and George Cocks all attempting to score, all went wide and credit must be given to BR Goalkeeper who made several great saves. It was unfortunate that defence was caught off guard 5 minutes before the end of the game, which resulted in BR scoring a goal to seal their victory.

RT Dragons 0-1 Nuneaton Griff
25 March 2007

Rugby Town met Nuneaton Griff, currently top of the league, at home Sunday.

RT started well gaining possession and pushed forward straight away. However they were easily matched and NG gave nothing away, defence was solid giving RT a difficult time setting up Bill Holman and Jim Dickinson chances of scoring. George cocks controlled a great a pass from midfield but unfortunately his shot went wide of the post Callum Birse had a great shot but it went over the post, George Bond’s shot was solid but again went over the post. Sam Revell, Dali Wu and Shanil Vaghela had their work cut out, a great NG pass from the wing resulted in Chris Goodman (GK) punching out the ball only to have a striker next to him tap in the only goal of the game. The second half was a battle of wills and showed great talent from both teams. RT had more shots at goal but unfortunately it was not their day and the game ended 1-0.

It was a great game, exciting and executed good skills from each player, well done. The second half was more productive for RT but the result was disappointing for all despite the effort put in.

Many thanks to Keith Howe, who kindly stepped in as a Referee at the last moment.

Whitestone Sports Swifts 0-8 Rugby Town Dragons
11 March 2007

RT Dragons met WSS away, the first half started slow, little first touches and possession kept, meant WSS held the game well.

However, determination crept in and RTD then notched up a gear, midfielders controlled the ball and passed confidently to the wingers eagerly waiting for players to pick up and score. With RTD now in control the players looked more confident and thus the 1ST half ended with goals from GAVIN SEWDYALL (1), CALLUM BIRSE (1).so deserved , CRAIG MOONAN (1) at last !! and JAMES HOWE (1).

2nd half gave RTD a wake up call, defence was needed, slips were made in midfield and WSS had chances of scoring.. WSS were confident and gained possession of the ball numerous times but RTD kept the momentum up, well manoeuvred, skilled and also pass backs were executed.

RTD continued to score successfully with JIM DICKINSON (2) AND GEORGE BOND (2) to end the match successfully again.
