Rugby Town 4-0 Mount Nod
13 May 2007 | Knock-out Cup

Cov Minor U11 ‘A’ League Champions Rugby Town Juniors completed the double on Saturday by winning the U11 Knockout Cup at the Bedworth Oval against Mount Nod.

At the start of the game Rugby took a while to settle with both sides cancelling out each others efforts. However, Town’s defence stood firm with a strong wind in their faces. Several chances fell to both sides with Sam Wightman coming to Rugby’s rescue. Just before half-time Rugby poured forward and Jonjo McGarrity fed Luke Hibberd who coolly slotted under the keeper to break the deadlock.

The second period saw greater Rugby pressure which was rewarded when Ryan Harris crossed and Tom Mourant scored after the keeper spilled the ball. Scenting victory Rugby were awarded a corner that was swung in by Jacob Bourne for Ryan Harris to get the final touch. The 4-0 win was confirmed when Ben Romasz was put through to fire high above the keeper.

Rugby Town 4-3 Coventry Sphinx
29 April 2007

Rugby Town Juniors U11 were crowned Cov. Minor League ‘A’ Division Champions on Sunday after a thrilling 4-3 win over Coventry Sphinx. Sphinx could also have taken the title by winning this match.

Only needing a point to secure the title, Town got off to a slow start and were 1-0 down after ten. They responded quickly with a coolly taken Ben Romasz penalty, and went in front when Cameron Nunn volleyed in from a corner. Sphinx then fought back to equalise just before half-time to make it 2-2.

The second half was frantic, with Sphinx thinking the title was to be theirs going ahead 3-2. Rugby had other ideas storming back to score from a fierce shot from Ben Romasz, and then a Tom Mourant header that was enough to give Rugby Town Juniors the title in 2007.

Rugby Town 2-1 Bedworth Eagles
22 April 2007 | Cup Semi Final

Rugby Town U11 Juniors secured a place in the Coventry Minor League U11 Cup final on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Bedworth Eagles.

In a tight and tense affair Rugby had the better of the opening exchanges and twice went close to scoring. Eventually an excellent move involving McGarrity, Babington, and Hibberd saw the latter cross for Mourant to score. A minute later some neat footwork by Hibberd saw him lose his marker to score low to the keeper’s right.

The second period was equally competitive as Rugby battled to hold onto the advantage. Rugby did have several attempts through Meighan and McGarrity to claim the next goal but Bedworth snatched a consolation in the last minute. Juniors will now play in the Cup final at Bedworth Oval on 12th May.

Juniors continued the pressure in the second period looking for an advantage. Josh Cooke won a free kick on the left which he stepped up to curl it into the top right hand corner of the net. Later on the game was sealed after Luke Hibberd was fouled on the right hand edge of the box only for Jacob Bourne to put a curling kick into the roof of the net.
