Match Reports

Rugby Town 1-2 Dunlop Juniors
4 March 2007

Two evenly matched sides fought out a tough game in poor weather conditions. With constant rain the pitched was never conducive to flowing football.

The sticky surface helped keep the goal scoring opportunities to a minimum. Dunlop Started the brighter, but Rugby slowly came into the game. After 20 minutes, Ben Morley's hard work in shutting the opposition down, got its just rewards. He won possession close to the by line and from an almost impossible angle, finished superbly. Town were the more dominant for the rest of the half, but couldn't add to their score. In the second half, Dunlop had the majority of ball, but never really threatened. They equalised with 20 minutes left and got the winner with 15 minutes to go, both down to mistakes rather than good play. With no substitutes, there was little Rugby could do to change the outcome.

Rugby Town 11-0 AT7 Youth
4 February 2007 | Coventry Minor Cup 2nd Round

Up against a side that has only suffered one defeat all season Town were expecting a tough test, however the match was just the opposite as Town breezed through to the quarter finals.

After just eight minutes some poor AT7 defending presented Nic Whittam with a simple chance and 1-0. two minutes later Ross Ingram added Towns second. Town eased up and it was a further twenty minutes before Tom Ryan headed home number three.

Town cut loose in the second half as AT7 collapsed, Nic & Ross both got their second goals to make it 5-0 before Jordy Edgington notched a superb hat-trick in the space of twelve minutes. Town then gave keeper Lewis O'Connor a rare run out on pitch and he helped himself to a hat-trick in an amazing three minute spell to round off a great performance by Town.

Keresley Colts 0-7 Rugby Town
7 January 2007

The first 10 minutes saw Keresley dominate possession, and go close to scoring.

As Rugby slowly eased into their game, it was apparent that they were far superior to their opponents. The break through came after 20 minutes, when Ben Morley burst into the box, only to get tripped up. Nic Whittam calmly slotted home a neat penalty. The game had now turned on its head, as Rugby took complete control. Two more goals came before half-time courtesy of Jordy Edgington and Ross Ingram.

The second half was one-way traffic, as Keresley rarely threatened, it was just a matter of how many. The goals duly came at regular intervals. Jordy Edgington and Ross Ingram added one more each, as did Tom Ryan and even goalie Lewis O'Connor, who had only been on pitch for one minute.

A gentle start to the new year, but bigger challenges await!
