Earlsdon FC 3-9 Rugby Town Juniors

Disappointingly Town turnout was down for a second week in a row as only ten were available for the trip to Earlsdon.

An even first half affair in which the home side struck first from the spot after keeper Robert Stipanovic was adjudged to have brought down an opponent. Peter Brough latched onto a Jamie Slade through ball to equalise then almost immediately afterwards Earlsdon benefited from a long kick that bounced clean over Rugby's defence and it was just a formality to restore the advantage. However, it was all square at half time thanks to Nick Bailie's first on the day. Bailie secured his brace latching onto Stipanovic's long kick to finish with ease but again Earlsdon drew level. Rugby Town were now playing the home side off the pitch with some lovely first touch football, excellent movement particularly down both flanks and the goals started to become free flowing as Shaun Pollard, Nabil Hussein (4) and Brough made the final score 3 - 9.

Secondary too, but no less important than the midfield play was the defensive performance and the link up play between the two, Martin Riley, Halim Halim, Punit Parmar and Danny Reeve each gave a total performance and keeper Stipanovic played his part with three great saves. Well done everyone - a supreme effort.

Kenilworth Wardens 1-9 Rugby Town Juniors

Following last weekend's disappointing display, town came out of the blocks ready to do battle.

A spirited start from the home side held Town at bay for the first ten minutes until Nabil Hussein chased a seemingly lost cause to get possession in the right hand corner before crossing to Shaun Pollard who fired in at the near post. Boris Lange registered his first ever goal for the side soon after. Hussein made it 3 with a close range header and Tobie Watts slotted in a fourth before the break.

Considering the dreadful windy conditions Halim supplied two cracking corners which produced powerful headed goals from Lange and Hussein. Gun ho mentality meant that Kenilworth were gifted a consolation and almost a second before things were tightened up again. Jamie Slade, Pollard and Peter Brough added another goal each to make it 9 on the day. Martin Riley had a commanding game leading the rearguard although ably assisted by Luke Low, Halim and Danny Reeve.

Christ The King 1-4 Rugby Town Juniors
-

Sponsored by Ventnor Farm Marina

This was never going to be a showpiece of footballing excellence given the strong winds which prevailed throughout the full 80 minutes.

Kings were up for the challenge and made it difficult to play fluent football but it was Rugby who struck first after a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box. Peter Brough found the corner with a somewhat bobbling effort. Town’s Luke Low and Punit Parmar linked up well down the right to supply a nice low cross across the box for the advancing Tobie Watts to make it 2 at the break.

With the wind behind them now Town exerted more pressure and were soon 3 up as Nabil Hussein headed home from Brough’s chipped cross. Brough capped a workmanlike performance with his second ten minutes from time but Kings grabbed a consolation late on beating Rob Stipanovic at the near post. Max Beard, Boris Lange and Stipanovic all deserve special mention today for turning in very good performances although it was an all round team effort once again. Well done all.
