Stratford Town 1-2 Rugby Town
31 January 2007 | MFYL Eastern Division

Town kept their league title hopes alive with this hard fought victory over a well organnised Stratford outfit.

Although both goals were scored by David Kolodynski (1 being a penalty) this victory was down to Town's defence of Nathan Thomas, Todd Davidson, Ian Judd and Rob Haynes who stood firm throughout. Davidson and Judd are looking a formidable partnership in central defence and with Thomas reverting back to his right back postion after playing central defence and left back the side looked to have a better balance.

Haynes coming in at left back was solid and his long throw ins have added to Town's armoury. In midfield the central pairing of Brad Harris and Mark Edge worked tirelessly and has the game progressed were becoming more of a threat with quick counter attacking football.

The destiny of the league is still in Rugby's hands but they cannot afford many more slip ups.I believe they can do it and with Manager Chris Wells pulling the strings there should be no reason come May that this youth team can sit proudly on top of the league and add to Rugby Town's Silverware.

Sutton Coldfield 4-6 Rugby Town
19th November 2006 | MFYC 1st Round

It was another roller coaster ride for the Town Youth in the league cup where they again knocked out a Premier League side.

If the truth be known the game should have been over in the 90 minutes with Town holding a 4-2 advantage with only 10 mins of normal time to play. Sutton powered forward and equalised right on time and the Town supporters though that was it as it was the home side who had gained the confidence. But unlike the epic FA Youth Cup game Town found their goal scoring boots and went on to comfortably run out winners. Scorers for Rugby were David Kolodinski (2) Jack Allen (2) Joel Young, Todd Sawko. The draw for the next round takes place on Wednesday and will be on the website. The next game for the Town Youth is the rearranged BCFA Youth Cup Game against Gornal. That will be played at Butlin Road on Wednesday 29th November with a 7.45pm KO.

Admission is £2 Adults and £1 Concessions.

Great Yarmouth 3-2 Rugby Town
8th November 2006 | FA Youth Cup 1st Round

Leaving the ground last night a comment from a Yarmouth supporter summed up the whole evening for me " I have never known a side come here and dominate so much and go away with nothing" and that was the feeling amongst most of the crowd of 129 spectators with a healthy contingent from Rugby.

But its the result that matters and Yarmouth now go into a 2nd round game at home to Roy Mc Farlands Chesterfield but Rugby will take away the positives which are that the team has gained massive experience towards their football development.

The first 10 minutes of the game was all Yarmouth and it was this spell of pressure in which they took the lead. A cross was floated over from the right by Robert Oldham was neatly headed into the corner by Patterson. The next 35 minutes of the half was dominated totally by Town. Driven on by Mark Edge and Brad Harris chances went begging every couple of minutes Mark Edge hit the bar when it was easier to score the David Kolodinski also hit the bar when it looked easier to score. Towns passing and effort was eventually rewarded when after some good work down the right by Todd Sawko his cross was met perfectly by Kolodinski to rifle his shot into the corner. That sent the fans off and 2 minutes later Town should have taken the lead some excellent work from Ben Clarke let in Ally Keay who's shot hit the near post. Yarmouth in truth were not at the races and half time seemed like a way out from the Rugby onslaught.

The second half started with Thomas going off and being replaced by Jason Hardy the letter picking up a groin injury and on the football side the half started as the first finished with Rugby dominating play and creating chances. In the 50th Harris was brought down and the free kick from Edge was parried by the keeper back into Kolodinski`s path he gleefully found the corner only to be denied by a late flag for offside. Another free kick on 53 minutes again caused havoc this time Marlows kick was headed back across goal for Davison to shoot over. Again on 55 minutes Clarke caused mayhem in the Yarmouth defence and it was a Harris shot this time which shaved the post. I may seem unkind to Yarmouth but the truth is they were not in the game, but all that changed in the 62nd Minute when from a poor clearance from the Town defence let in Liam Bartley who picked the ball up 25 yards out and hit a bullet of a shot past the bewildered Rugby keeper Lovell who did not move. Rugby were stunned and more activity around the Yarmouth box which led to more chances going begging as Edge Harris Young and Sawko were the guilty parties. But it was all smiling faces in the 76th minute when from a kick by Yarmouth keeper Hembling the ball fell to Todd Sawko on the half way line he reacted quickly seen the keeper out of his area and curled a magnificent lob back over the keeper and into the net for a 2-2 score line. Yarmouth made a few changes with Collins and Forbes coming on which made the hosts come more into the game. Lovell saving well from a Harman shot and from a corner Jordan Hardy going close.

Rugby then brought Liam Charlton on and the fiery winger shaved the post after some more good work by Harris. But it was despair on 80 mins when from a long clearance out of defence by Woodron the ball was picked up by Patterson who then clipped the ball majestically over the Rugby keeper and it nestled into the corner of the net. Somewhere Rugby found more energy to power forward and were denied an equaliser when the Bloaters keeper misjudged a long ball that flew over him, Kolodinski followed it into the net only for the referee to blow up for a free kick. Rugby still had time to hit another post Charlton being the unlucky player but as the referee blew for full time the relief for Yarmouth was there to see. It was a quite bus on the way home but one player summed it up when he said " 3 chances 3 goals 28 chances 2 goals that's football "

Youth football in Rugby is undergoing a new revolution with the partnership of the top senior side Rugby Town and one of the biggest junior clubs in the country Rugby Town JFC.

The structure of the club is such that players can progress from the age of five from feeder squads in the junior club's setup, all the way through to under 17s.  Meanwhile, the Rugby Town School of Excellence has been setup to compete in the Midland Premier Youth League and will provide a good standard of coaching, playing, and facilities for the finest youth talent in Rugby.  These age groups start at under 12s, and progress all the way up to the under 18s in the Midland Floodlit Youth League.

Since its foundation six years ago, the under 18s side has been feeding the first team squad with Rugby's finest youngsters.  From the 2001/2 Championship-winning Youth side, Justin Marsden, Rory Squire and Neil Melvin emerged into the first team squad and have remained since whilst other talents such as David Kolodynski

This new system provides a direct feed for talented youngsters in Rugby to use the best facilities in the Midlands with the junior club's 30 acre footballing site at Kilsby Lane and the senior club's third generation pitch development at Butlin Road.
