Match Reports
Harborough Rebels 2-2 Rugby Town Rhinos
25 February 2007

The Rhinos continue to improve game by game and always show their loyal fans how football should be played.

Right from the start the Rhinos attacked with free flowing football and the rebels found it hard to get into any rhythm at all. Five minutes in and Rhinos could have had 3 goals with the countless attacks. However Jonathon Hawker and Jack Cornes proved the perfect foil for Captain Harry Brown and set him off on many runs towards goal. The Rebels keepr was in fine form and was quick to come out and smother these attacks.

Finally a through ball from Jonathon allowed Jack to show off one of his trademark dummies and flight the ball perfectly in for Harry to loop a shot that was destined for the top corner until a Rebel defender reached up and prevented the goal. Penalty and a clam Jonathon slotted the ball home with ease. A few moments later and Jiten Mistry provided the pass of the season through to Harry and he flicked the ball on to Jack to make it 2nil.

The rebels came back in the second half and scored an early goal. However an almost identical move caused Jiten to stop a dead cert goal with his hands and rebels equalized from the spot. Both teams had chances to win but as with the reverse fixture it remained 2-2. Man of the match Jiten Mistry held the defense together and assisted with the second goal.

Borough All Swifts 4-3 Rugby Town Rhinos
28 January 2007

A great game once again played in attacking style on the worst pitch of the season.

Right from the start Rhinos dominated this game and even after a lucky goal from Boro they continued their attack and equalised after Captain Harry Brown played in a pin perfect cross for Jack Cornes to slot the ball home. Boro battled away and went ahead after a series of wonderful saves by inform keeper Josh Orr. Rhinos press on and were rewarded for their dominance of the Boro half with Jonathon Hawker rounding the keeper and punching the ball home. Just before half time came the goal of the season, Jonathon was just at the half way line and looked up before unleashing a stunner that flew over the keepers head and Rhinos took a well deserved lead into the break.

No thanks to the Boro Referee who decided a blatant handball did not warrant a penalty and even admitted so after the game that he did not blow because he was “trying to be fair”. Who he was being fair to we will never know, but it was not the Rhinos. The second half was end-to-end stuff and Boro took their only two chances and the game ended 4-3. Ben James played a battling game in defence and was a well-deserved Man of the Match.

Broughton Panthers 0-8 Rugby Town Rhinos
14 January 2007

The Rhinos visited Broughton this weekend with a renewed determination.

They completely took control of the game from the kick off and recorded their biggest win of the season. Harry Brown( Captain) lead by example and scored a hattrick as well as setting up 3 more of Rhinos goals. Midfield master Jonathon Hawker also scored a Hattrick with Jack Cornes weighing in with the other two. It was largely quiet for the defense and Goal Keeper Harry Louch, but on the rare occasion that Broughton attacked he was there to clean it up. 4nil at half time and Robert Reeves, Calum Ashburner and Ben James all showed that they could not be broken down. Callum Kent, Brandon Harvey and Alex Peters and Jiten Mistry came on and Rugby just became stronger. Four more goals and sealed a great performance and Captian Harry Brown deservedly took man of the match for his scintillating display.

Thanks to all the parents who braved the cold.
