Rugby Town Tigers 2-1 Chapelfield Colts
12 May 2007 | Tamworth Cup

Rugby Town under 9’s travelled to “ The Lamb “ the home of Tamworth FC on Saturday to contest the final of the Tamworth Cup.

Their opponents were Coventry based side Chapelfield Colts who had conceded only one goal in the previous five rounds.

Town started the stronger and great football created half chances for Charlie Hawkins and Dylan Tellyn whose shots were either well saved or brushed the woodwork.

A lapse in defensive concentration allowed Colts an opportunity but a superb chase and tackle from Elliot Moore rescued the situation.

With Colts struggling to handle the pace of Adam Shaw, he eventually found enough room to hit an unstoppable shot to give Town the lead.

With Josh Baker and William Scott outstanding in defence Colts opportunities were few but just before half time slack marking at a corner resulted in the equaliser being scrambled home.

Nathan Bailey and Harry Brown worked tirelessly for the Town in attack and Adam Neale in goal was forced to make some fine second half saves as the rain made conditions more difficult..

With extra time looking possible Dylan Tellyn and Charlie Hawkins combined to release Adam Shaw who fired home his second of the game and the ultimate winner.

A great all round contribution by all nine players in the squad and a deserved reward for their performances throughout the season.

Congratulations to all the boys and big thanks to all the supporters on the day.
Well done also to the management team of Chris Courtenay and Nick Letts.

Rugby Town Tigers 0-3 Birstall United Cubs
18 March 2007 |

With Birstall already assured as champions and Tigers secure as runners up, this game was always going to be a battle royale as Tigers were the only team to have taken points from them with a victory earlier in the season.

Birstall started the stronger and with the wind in their favour always looked likely to score first, however both their first half goals came from Tigers own defensive mix ups and failure to clear their lines.

The second half was more even as Tigers grew in belief and refused to be knocked off the ball by their more physical opponents but another error presented Birstall with a third.

A disappointing result for the PAB Coventry sponsored Tigers but second place in the table is a great reward for the hard work and attitude they have shown this season.

WELL DONE TO THE WHOLE SQUAD.

Rugby Town 4-0 Chetwynd Tigers
11 March 2007 | Tamworth Cup

RUGBY TOWN under 9's progressed to the final of the Tamworth Cup with a convincing 4-0 semi-final victory over Chetwynd tigers on Saturday.

Town were always in control and the early pressure resulted in a fine individual goal from Adam Shaw. Within minutes another solo effort from Dylan Tellyn increased their lead further and from a Nathan Bailey corner Shaw again added the vital touch for a third before half time.

Harry Brown and Charlie Hawkins worked tirelessly in attack and this enabled the space for Shaw to complete his hat-trick.

Elliot Moore, William Scott and Josh Baker were excellent in their defensive roles and Adam Neale was rarely troubled in goal.

Town have scored 15 goals on their route to the final against Chapelfield Colts on 12th May and only conceded 2.

Leicester Nirvana 0-1 RT Tigers
25 February 2007 | Leicester & District Mutual League Under 9

Tigers sponsored by PAB Coventry guaranteed their second place in the league with a hard fought one goal victory over a determined Nirvana side.

On a pitch that was better suited to mud wrestling than football both teams managed to entertain the crowd with a display of strong tackling and great endeavour.

Billy Brazier was outstanding in defence ably supported by Luke Haynes and Kieron Parry while Sam Letts, Jordan Bance and Harvey Sinclair worked tirelessly up front.

With Elliot Moore and Dylan Tellyn sharing the goalkeeping and defensive midfield roles in each half Tigers never looked like conceding a goal and it was therefore apparent that a single piece of footballing magic would somehow settle this game.

This inspiration was provided by Nathan Bailey who with five minutes remaining managed to gain the strength to run clear from the halfway line and slot the ball past the oncoming keeper.

A well deserved victory on the most difficult of pitches. WELL DONE BOYS !!
