Leigh signed for Rugby on loan from Hinckley in September 2007. A central defender, Leigh is son of former league player and manager Nicky Platnauer.

After being released by Leicester City, Leigh established himself as a regular in the Hinckley first team in 2005/6 but a stomach virus meant that he missed large chunks of the 2006/7 season. Platnauer has made 40 appearance for the Knitters scoring one goal.

Made his debut for Rugby in the 2-2 draw at home to Tiverton on 22nd September 2007 and was red carded in his third game for the club against Swindon Supermarine - a game Valley went onto win 1-0.
