Martin
re-joined for a
third spell in October
2011 this time part
of Dave Stringer's
managerial team
at Butlin Road.
Sockett
had only left the
manager's post at
Rugby months earlier
to join Southern
League Premier side
Redditch United
but his spell there
was short-lived.
Martin
had re-joined as
first team manager
at Butlin Road for
his second spell
in charge in June
2010, nearly ten
years after his
first spell in charge
of Rugby.
Sockett
originally had a
two-and-a-half year
spell in charge
of Valley from 1998
to 2001 and did
a good job of leading
Rugby from the lower
depths of the Southern
League Midland Division
to a more safe mid-table
spot which provided
the platform for
Rugby's spell in
the early 2000's.
Since leaving Valley,
Martin has had management
experience with
the likes of Coleshill
Town, Kenilworth
Town, Bedworth United,
Stratford Town,
Brackley Town, Racing
Club Warwick and
most recently Rushall
Olympic.
As
a player, Sockett
became a well-established
Southern League
player and played
over 500 games for
the likes of Hayes,
Bedworth United,
Coventry Sporting,
Racing Club Warwick,
Stratford Town,
Hinckley Athletic,
Daventry Town, Downes
Sports, Hinckley
Town and VS Rugby.
As a teenager he
had trials with
Bristol Rovers and
Arsenal, before
moving into the
non-League game.
Martin
is well known for
his sheer enthusiasm
for football and
his wide-spanning
network and knowledge
of the Southern
League.
Sockett's
second spell with
Valley was a reasonably
successful one leading
a brand new set
of players to 6th
in the Zamaretto
Central after the
team's relegation
from the Premier
Division under Lee
Colkin's leadership.
Martin
left the club in
May 2011 after being
unable to commit
himself to Rugby
and joined Redditch.
