FALL AT FIRST HURDLE

Scott
Musgrove scored in the second half but
Valley could not compelte the comeback
to force a replay |

Rugby
Town slipped into their old habit of recent years
by exiting the FA Cup in the First Qualifying
Round against a resilient Glapwell.
Glapwell
ply their trade two leagues below Rugby, but the
hosts performed well enough to overhaul the BGB
Premier side.
Michael
Fox fired in a long range drive to get 'Well on
their way inside the first two minutes but Rugby
replied with a flurry of chances and possession.
Eventually,
David Stone wriggled himself free of attention
in the box and fired low into the net.
For
the rest of the half Akin Aladetoun, David Staff,
Scott Musgrove, Stephan Morley and Stone all came
close to giving Valley the lead while at the other
end Simon Lynn as called into action on one occasion.
However,
the second half was a different story altogether
as Glapwell started on fire. Just a minute into
the second half, the home side opened up the Rugby
defence with ease and Colin Cockerill was allowed
to steal 5 yards on his persuers before poking
the ball past Lynn and into net via the post.
Things
got even worse for Rugby when Justin Burdett rose
at the far post to head home a looping effort
from a corner.
Rugby
pressed to get back into the game but still Stone
and Aladetoun could not find the finish before
Musgrove finally got a goal back when he fired
in from the edge of the area with the Glapwell
goalkeeper allowing the effort to go through his
hands.
Substitute
David Kolodynski almost capitalised twice from
Musgrove throughballs but again failed to trouble
the goalkeeper.
Rugby's
best chance to earn a replay came when sub Matt
Gearing eased past his man in the area before
flashing the ball wide of the goal from eight
yards with Kolodynski coming within inches of
applying the crucial touch.
Glapwell
themselves had chances to kill the game off but
Lynn made an excellent save from a long range
effort and then had to redeem himself after a
poor kick straight to the 'Well striker.
