BREWARD
BRILLIANCE SHINES THROUGH AT CHESHUNT
Midfielder
Tom Breward's fine start to the season continued
as he played a major part in both second half
goals earning Rugby a fifth league win of the
season at bottom side Cheshunt.
Rugby
had fell behind to a 19th minute opener from Cox
in a dour first half but Valley picked things
up in the second and got their rewards early after
the break.
Breward
scored his first of the season when he powerfully
headed home David Staff's centre two minutes into
the second half from six yards.
19-year-old
Breward was then involved in the winning goal
just five minutes later when he played an excellent
ball down the right for David Stone, who beat
his man to the ball before cutting inside into
the area and unleashing a drive into the top corner
from twelve yards.
Rugby
were relatively comfortable for the remainder
of the game although Staff made a crucial intervention
in the six yard box and goalkeeper Simon Lynn
had to be on hand to make a point blank save from
his team-mate Craig Herbert.
Delroy
Gordon, making his first start for five games
after knee surgery, should have wrapped up the
game five minutes from time but his soaring header
flew wide of the goal.
