10-MAN
TOWN SHOW STYLE AGAINST SUPERMARINE
Despite
playing for an hour with only 10 men, Rugby Town
put in a stirring performance to overcome Swindon
Supermarine at Hunts Copse and move into the top
six.
Valley
made a decent start to the game and could have
been ahead early on but Tom Breward's free header
was cleared off the line from Stephan Morley's
corner.
The
definitive moment of the first half came on the
half hour mark when on-loan defender Leigh Platnauer
reacted unnecessarily to a foul near the touch
line and his aggression was punished with a red
card.
Rugby
were forced to re-shuffle with Ashley Blake reverting
to centre half and Valley held out reasonably
comfortably at half time.
Manager
Billy Jeffrey made the decision to attack Swindon
in the second half despite the hosts' man advantage
and it paid off on 65 minutes when Craig Herbert's
long pass was chased down by David Kolodynski
and the young striker's first time centre was
slotted home by David Stone.
Stone
was instrumental in the second half and David
Staff and Mark Edge should have done better when
Stone laid on chances for them.
Rugby
goalkeeper Simon Lynn was only called into action
to make one excellent save when he brilliantly
parried McKay's powerful free-kick, but Valley
were well worth their three points.
