Rugby
Town lifted themselves off the table in emphatic
fashion at Butlin Road against notorious bogey
side Clevedon Town with Valley striker David Kolodynski
helping himself to a hat-trick for the second
game in a row.
Clevedon
had previously been unbeaten in eight visits to
Butlin Road and had recorded five straight wins
over Rugby in previous meetings but those records
came to a sudden halt.
19-year-old
Rugby born striker Kolodynski played a part in
all four goals, finishing with two late goals
to make it back-to-back hat-trick.
Tony
Dobson had to choose from a depleted squad with
Craig Herbert, Daren Dykes, Matt Gearing and Kieran
Fitzharris all unavailable through injur or illness.
With
just two substitutes there was a debut for ex-Gresley
player Brian Woodhall, deputising on the right
of midfield.
Rugby
went ahead on twenty minutes as David Stone made
excellent progress down the right flank before
squaring the ball to Kolodynski
for his first.
Stone
was guilty of missing two excellent chances during
the first half while at the other end Andrew Stevens
had to be alert to prevent a one-on-one opportunity.
Valley's
pace in attack was causing all sorts of problems
going into the second half and the inevitable
second goal came when Kolodynski tricked his marker
in the penalty area before delivering a low cross
for the onrushing Scott Musgrove
to finish from close range.
The
second goal killed the game for aperiod during
the second half with Valley content to sit on
their lead but as Clevedon began to commit more
players forward there were huge gaps at the back.
Strike
partners Kolodynski and Stone were perfoming almost
a comedy act for a 15 minute period late on with
so many chances through on goal but both made
the wrong decision at the key time with only the
goalkeeper to beat.
Finally,
Rugby got the extra goals they deserved late on.
Firstly, Steve Purton's 20-yard free kick was
parried straight to Kolodynski
before the young striker was again on hand in
the dying seconds, showing excellent determination
before placing his shot past Danny Greaves from
the edge of the area.
