Scott
Musgrove was on target with two crucial
goals away from home once more to give
Rugby an important victory |
|
A
brace from midfielder Scott Musgrove helped Rugby
Town to a 2-0 win over struggling Mangotsfield
United propelling Valley to 15th in the table.
Musgrove's
second half double strike represented a sharpness
in front of goal that was not shared by Rugby's
recently potent strikeforce who spurned numerous
opportunities to extend the scoreline.
Tony
Dobson named the same starting XI with Craig Herbert
missing out with a new back injury while Kieran
Fitzharris was missing through illness.
Rugby's
best chance of the first half came as striker
David Kolodynski shot weakly at the goalkeeper
when through on goal while goalbound efforts from
Steve Purton and Brian Woodhall were blocked.
Mangotsfield,
on a run of five successive defeats, offered little
and it no surprise when Rugby took the lead 15
minutes in the second half.
Purton's
excellent left wing cross was well taken by Musgrove
on the volley from eight yards.
Kolodynski
was guilty of missing two one-on-one opportunities
either side of the goal before Valley effectively
sealed the game.
This
time on the counter attack, a flowing move involving
David Stone, Neil King and Kolodynski culminated
in substitute Matt Gearing cutting the ball back
for Musgrove to take a touch
before firing in from close range to make it an
impressive eight goals from sixteen appearances
this season.
Kolodynski
had one more chance to add to his season's tally
late on when gifted possession by the goalkeeper
but his tame effort was easily saved with the
goal gaping.
