Rugby
Town played out a goal-less draw after an entertaining
encounter at Butlin Road against Swindon Supermarine.
Valley
will feel they could have taken all three points,
however, after what turned into an end-to-end
game towards the end.
The
game was generally evenly-contested with both
goalkeepers in excellent form to keep the scores
even.
Andy
Stevens made the pick of the saves in the first
half with a flying acrobatic save to keep out
Ash Edenborough's curling free kick which was
destined for the top corner.
Rugby's
best chance in the first half fell on the stroke
of half time to Dave Pearson who was clean through,
but with the ball always running away from him
could not lift the ball sufficiently over the
oncoming goalkeeper.
Valley
had three excellent chances near the end of the
game with the best falling to Tom Breward who
saw his close range shot somehow kept out by a
fantastic reflex save.
David
Staff should have found the back of the net when
he pounced on defensive hesistancy but his shot
was just deflected wide while Valley could not
capitalise when the ball was inches from crossing
the line after a corner at the death.
Swindon
had their own chances and Andrew Stevens had to
keep on his toes to deny the division's surprise
package.
Defensively,
Rugby looked solid but again just lacked the cutting
edge in front of goal.
