Despite
the hosts being at the wrong end of the table,
manager Dave Stringer knew that this would still
be a tough match, but was dealt a blow when talented
player Luke Leahy was ruled out due to a broken
rib sustained in the match against Woodford.
Rugby
nearly had a fantastic start when after only four
minutes, home central defender Jeanmal Prosper
had to clear off the line a leaping header from
in-form Tyrone Fagan after a good cross from Craig
Reid.
Aylesbury
though were creating chances as well with the
impressive looking Scott Orphanov hitting the
post and volleying a shot just past the post from
a telling Luke Graham cross.
Right
on half time, Richie Allen found Seb Lake-Gaskin
who hit a shot but it when it straight into the
grateful arms of goalkeeper Rhys Marshall.
The
second half was really all Rugby, and took the
lead in the 49th minute.
Again
it was a combination of a Reid cross, the ball
floating beautifully into the area and the ball
found Fagan who headed in at the far post.
Within
five minutes, Town increased their lead and practically
finished off the game when Ed Booth got on the
scoreshoot.
Man
of the match Allen's corner accurately found the
defender and he jumped highest to leave Marshall
picking the ball out of the net.
Aylesbury
were being outplayed at this point with Rugby
playing neat and confident football not seen for
a number of matches, and the chances kept coming
with Lake-Gaskin seeing two decent efforts go
begging and substitute Seb Hamilton seeing his
shot go over.
The
home side never got into any stride with Rugby
defending well closing down any opportunities.
Despite
a raft of substitutions, Aylesbury never improved
and there were even calls for the manager to resign
from the home fans.
No
concerns for Rugby and it was no surprise that
Town made it three, when Lake-Gaskin scored a
cracker of a goal from 20 yards out.
A
pinpoint pass from Hamilton, found the striker
who unleashed a shot which took a slight deflection
of Marshall and sailed into the net to the delight
of the away fans.
Soon
after the fulltime whistle went and despite a
cagey first half performance a much improved second
half and a much needed clean sheet which bodes
well for the rest of the season.
