Rugby Town came from behind to progress to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a superb win away at Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Nantwich Town.

Without a win in five matches, the FA Cup came as a respite from the league campaign where form had dipped so this tie brought some relief.

Defender Mason Rowley returned to the starting line up in place of Ed Booth and Lewis McBride returned to the midfield while new signing, St Kitts & Nevis international Aaron Moses-Garvey was on the bench.

Town had the first chance of the game when Justin Marsden produced a decent low shot on target from David Kolodynski's pass.

The hosts had a golden chance to open the scoring when Carden's cross from the right found Clayton in oceans of space at the back post but despite bringing the ball under control he skied his effort well over Niall Cooper's crossbar.

Rugby were not overawed by their hosts with Kolodynski curling an effort just over from outside the area and home keeper Terry Smith coming out to block a shot from the striker after Alex Gudger's clearance.

Nantwich had another half chance on the half hour mark after Gudger's slip in defence but Aaron Burns hit his speculative shot wide as he angled in on goal.

The home side got the breakthrough in the 40th minute when the impressive Burns proved too strong for Rowley before gliding past Gudger with ease and tucking the ball past Cooper.

In the second half, Nantwich thought they had doubled their lead when Max Harrop scored from a direct free kick in the 53rd minute.

However, the goal was disallowed when the assistant referee deemed that one of the Nantwich players was obstructing Cooper's view in an offside position and the referee overturned his original decision - much to the dismay of the home players and fans.

Valley became stronger as the second half progressed and had two good chances to get back into the game.

Firstly Marsden screwed his shot wide from the angle inside the area after streaking clear after Seb Lake-Gaskin's hooked through ball before Lake-Gaskin again was the provider as he beat his man to the touchline before cutting back to Richard Blythe who lifted the ball high over the crossbar from eight yards.

Rugby finally got their equaliser with ten minutes to go, as Lake-Gaskin made the telling contribution.

Substitute Moses-Garvey made a break down the left and cut the ball back for Lake-Gaskin whose low shot from the edge of the area found the corner of the net via the post and the goalkeeper Smith.

Just three minutes later, Town dramatically completed the comeback and sealed the tie when Youngs carried the ball from a deep position before unleashing an accurate strike in space which left Smith stranded sending the away fans wild with celebration.

Craig Kelly came to the rescue with two important blocks for Rugby in the penalty area as Nantwich threw men forwards late on in search of an equaliser but their race was already run as they failed to get themselves a meaningful chance and Rugby held on to complete a great victory.
